Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself" (Def Jam/Universal), which had previously topped the U.K. chart for three weeks before Christmas, has returned to the summit to become the market's first No. 1 single of 2016. Adele's 25 (XL Recordings) begins a sixth week atop the album chart, but was only 6,000 weekly sales ahead ofElvis Presley's If I Can Dream (RCA/Sony Legacy).
Bieber's fourth aggregate week at the top with "Love Yourself" is part of another stellar singles showing for him, with the former No. 1s "Sorry" and "What Do You Mean" back up 3-2 and 5-4 respectively.
Adele's "Hello" moved back 4-3, while "You Don't Own Me" (RCA/Sony), by Grace featuring G-Eazy, which reached No. 4 two weeks ago, climbed back 6-5. In one of the steepest declines from No. 1 in memory, last week's bestselling single, "A Bridge Over You" (Emubands) by the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir, finished this week at No. 29.
With 25 unshakeable at No. 1 on the album chart and Presley at No. 2, Bieber's Purposeremained in third place and Jess Glynne's I Cry When I Laugh (Atlantic/Warner Music) edged up 5-4. One Direction's Made In The AM (Syco Music/Sony) climbed 8-5; Taylor Swift's 1989 (EMI/Universal, up 18-8) and James Bay's Chaos and the Calm(Republic/Universal, 17-10) were notable returnees to the top ten.
